Things to share this week

1. Music artists: 2WEI. These guys make excellent epic covers. Their album Sequels is my favourite, and my favourite track is a toss-up between In the End and Insomnia.2. Film/TV: Castlevania, Netflix. My brother recommended this one to me, and while I wasn't that into it at first, it slowly won me over. Vampire-hunting anime starring Richard Armitage. Short episodes and doesn't hold at airs.3. Film effects: How The Sound Effects in 'A Quiet Place' Were Made, Movies Insider. Most audio in films isn't captured on set, but produced in a studio in post-production by people called Foley artists. They use odds and ends to produce everything from the clip-clop of horses' hooves to the rustle of clothing. This video shows how they did the sound effects for A Quiet Place, a film which is reluctant to include any sound at all.4. Books: At Home by Bill Bryson. Bryson's most famous work is undoubtedly A Short History of Nearly Everything, but At Home is my favourite of his works. The book was inspired by Bill fussing about in his attic and realising he didn't really know why anything in his home was built the way it was. Why do forks have that many tines? Who said you had to have a separate room for sitting in? A fascinating dive through history.5. Interview: Ali Abdaal interviews Brandon Sanderson. As a huge fan of both of these guys, finding this was one of those fan-boy moments. I'm even reading The Well of Ascension right now. Having these two talk about storytelling in a wider sense, in such a casual way, makes for some very easy listening if you're on long a drive or washing up after dinner.

Until next time, be good.

Best regards,

Art
