Glamours and Dreamscapes

Things to share this week
1. Film/TV: Ghosts, BBC iPlayer. This gem of a comedy drama has just finished its third season. A. introduced me to it last year, and we've binged it since. Written by and starring the cast from Horrible Histories (if you're not from the UK and aren't familiar, get familiar), alongside Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith-Bynoe. Ritchie is one of my new favourite actors, who also recently appeared in Feel Good — see Sluice issue #8. Our favourite character is Mary, a peasant ghost who can be summed up by this video.2. Music: Nemo's Dreamscapes, YouTube channel. One of my go-to focus music channels. ASMR / oldies tracks with some nice looped Tom & Jerry / Loony Tunes reels.3. Books: The Passage trilogy by Justin Cronin. One of the great horror fantasy series to come out in the last twenty years, in the vein of Stephen King's epics. The trilogy mainly takes place 100 years after a vampire plague has destroyed the world. Only a few walled communities remain, and as even these places begin to fail, a young girl with strange powers appears — who has some kind of connection to the original outbreak.4. Web Comics: Barbarous by Yuko Ota and Ananth Hirsh. Where to start? Barbarous! Only the best web-comic out there, bar none. Hot-headed and homeless, glamour (magic) school dropout Persephone gets taken in by Cecilia, a strange bone-handed landlord. Persephone's past returns to haunt her, as she tries to get a foothold back on life along with the reclusive building caretaker, Leeds — who also happens to be a giant, muscled familiar. Support these guys on Patreon, they totally deserve it.5. Audiobook: The Lord of the Rings: The Followship of the Ring, by J.R.R. Tolkein, narrated by Andy Serkis. I recently sang the praises of the audiobook adaptation of The Hobbit (see Sluice issue #5), also narrated by Andy Serkis. I almost fell out of my chair when I found out Serkis was also narrating the full LOTR trilogy. The Fellowship of the Ring just came out, so... what are you waiting for?
Until next time, be good.
Best regards,
Art
