Things to share this week

1. Books: The Dark Tower by Stephen King. Spaghetti Western meets the horror-fantasy multiverse. This 7-book series took King decades to write, and just about every one of his other sixty-something books connects to this series in some way. As King says himself, this is his magnum opus, inspired by The Lord of the Rings. I made this series last for years, savouring it by reading only one book a year.2. Graphics novels: Nimona by Noelle Stevenson. The bestselling shapeshifter-girl graphic novel that put Stevenson on the map. Beautifully simple storytelling, with a lot of heart.3. Music: While My Guiar Gently Weeps by Regina Spektor. This is a sweet cover of the classic song, which I heard in the end credits of Kubo and the Two Strings (great film). This one's been stuck in my head on and off for years.4. Visual Effects: VFX Artists React to Bad & Great CGI by Corridor Crew. Corridor Crew is one of my favourite YouTube channels, and is responsible for many missing hours. This series unpicks all the best and worst visual effects in film history, with some fascinating and hilarious explanatinos on how the magic gets done.5. Essay: My Le Guin Year: Craft Lessons From a Master by Matt Bell. This essay just got published on Tor.com, following Matt Bell's year reading Ursula K. Le Guin's books. This brought back a lot of teenage memories of reading Le Guin for the first time. I've had to pull The Left Hand of Darkness off the shelf, because it's time for a re-read. (Also, check out Matt Bell if you're a creative whatever, he's definitely worth following.)

Until next time, be good.

Best regards,

Art
